Versitile Clark Picks North Texas
North Texas picked up a commitment from a defensive
end flying below the recruiting radar by both Rivals.com and Scout.com since
neither has him listed. However, Sun Belt, SEC, Mountain West, Big 12 and Conference-USA
schools are on
his front porch. The college recruiters are not overlooking #41 Dustin
Clark, 6-0, 202, DE/FB, Borger High School, Borger, Texas. Borger is located 45
northeast of Amarillo.
Clark gave his verbal commitment to North Texas
Assistant Head Coach Nick Quartaro when the coach made a home visit. He picked North
Texas over Texas Tech, Wyoming, Tulsa, Vanderbilt and Kansas. He felt “the
coaching staff, they seem like I would work better with them.” He plans an official visit on Jan 20th
and has already made visits to Lubbock, Laramie and Tulsa.
While Clark is
known for his defensive skills as seen in this video, Texas Panhandle Sports and this one, hudl.com he also plays fullback as well as special teams.
This season Clark recorded 18½ sacks which earned him District 1-A Defensive MVP and Second-Team All-State Defensive honors by the Associated Press.
Probably one of his best performances defensively was against Sanford Fritch High School where he had 13 tackles of which eight were solos and spent most of the evening in SFH’s backfield.
Against the Dumas Demons he hit the quarterback so hard the QB coughed up the ball in the endzone resulting a TD for Borger.
Is he good at fullback? Against Vista Ridge he was named player of the week in Division I for his performance. He scored 4 rushing TD’s, rushed for 94 yards, had a kick return, got a first down on a fake punt, several tackles and threw in a sack for the fun of it.
What is special about Clark is his first step, he is quick out of the blocks, so much so sometimes it looks like he is beating the snap. Since he is quick off the line, offensive lineman normally are not able to tie him up. The result is “he forces offenses to block him with multiple people,” according to Borger High School Coach Rusty Purser “he’s that much of a factor in the game.” When opponents put two players on him it helps the defense. “It frees up our linebackers and our other defensive linemen.” He can shed a tackler to get to the ball carrier. When to play goes away from him, he moves down the line to get the ball carrier from behind. He has a “nose for the ball.”
His quickness off the line might have to do with him running track in the off-season.
This year he help lead the team to a 6-4, 3-0 record winning the D-1 Championship and a berth in the Class 3A, Division I playoffs.
At the 4th Annual MPIF High School Combine, Clark was mentioned as one of the best in testing and field evaluations.
