Up Next Sam Houston

North Texas got to watch their next opponent on Fox Sports Southwest when Sam Houston lost to Texas A&M 64-37. In the game they were short three players. The Bearkats have the second most wins of any Texas schools in the state since 2000 and have the best record in the Southland Conference for the last 12 years.  However, they are off to a tough 3-7 start to this season.

Going into the A&M game Konner Tucker, G, 6-4, 185, Jr., leads the team with 12.4 points per game. James Marcus, F, 6-7, 195, Sr., adds 9.9 ppg, Michael Holyfield, C, 6-11, 255, F, adds 7.8 ppg, Darius Gatson, G, 5-11, 175, Jr., has 7.6 ppg and Demarcus Gatlin, G, 6-4, 190, So., scores 7.1 ppg.

Holyfield wears a guard to protect his nose. Three other players are out with injuries.

The team is averaging 56.9 points a game while opponents to score 60.6. They shoot .399% from the field and .264 from three point range. They outrebound their opponents 2.4 per game. Opponents out-steal the Bearkats 7.5 to 6 a game.

SHSU is definitely in a rebuilding year. All five of their starters are gone from the 2010 NCAA team.  There are only three returning players.

There are two seniors on the team with nine juniors so they do have some experience. One of the seniors, Antuan Bootie is out with injuries. There are seven junior college players filling out the ranks.

While Sam Houston has a good defense, North Texas should be able to get the ball inside. It has been a weakness of theirs all season. They are prone to have lapses in defense allowing easy baskets. They have had offensive problems at times and defenses have been able to turn them back.
