North Texas traveled to Texas for an out of conference game against the Longhorns. Both teams had a lot of young players in the line-up so it looked like it was going to be a good contest. While North Texas gave it the old college try they fell once again on the road 73-57.
Texas opened the game by getting the ball first but Niko
Stojiljkovic got a steal which was stolen back by Texas. The first points of
the game came as a result of a North Texas foul. At the line, Texas got the
first free throw to fall but missed the second which was rebounded by Jordan
Williams. After exchange of possessions North Texas took the 3-1 lead on a three
point shot by J. Williams. Texas then tied the game then took a 5-3 lead.
Kedrick Hogans tied the game on a two point shot but Texas regained the lead on
a three. Stojiljkovic was fouled on an
offensive rebound and with 15:53 left in the first half a timeout was called
with Texas up 8-5.
Stojiljkovic missed both free throws and the rebound was grabbed by Texas. After several exchanges, Texas added to their lead with a two. They were then fouled and hit both free throws to take a 12-5 lead. Williams closed North Texas to within four after hitting a three making it a 15-8 game. Texas hit a three which was answered with Franklin hitting for two. Texas extended their lead when they hit for a three. Roger Franklin got an offensive rebound and a put back before a timeout was called with 11:03 left in the half and Texas up 18-12.
Out of the timeout Texas scored pushing their lead to 20-12. They extended their lead after hitting one free throw and a two point basket. Chris Jones made the game 23-15 after he hit a three point shot. It was followed up with Brandon Walton hitting a three allowing North Texas to close to 23-18. Texas hit for two before A. Williams got his layup to fall. With 6:15 left in the game a timeout was called with North Texas trailing 20-27.
After the timeout Texas applied the pressure but Jones was able to get inside for two making it a 27-22 game. North Texas crept closer to Texas after Stojiljkovic was fouled hitting one of his free throws. Texas added to their lead when they hit both their free throws followed by a trey. A. Williams hit for a two and a foul shot to make it a 32-26 game. With 3:45 left in the first half, a timeout was called with Texas at the line and the score 32-26.
Texas hit both free throws then added four more points before A. Williams got two for North Texas making the halftime score Texas 38, North Texas 28.
Texas opened the second half strong. They first hit with a three, then two points and another two points to push their lead to 45-28. North Texas finally got on the board in the second half when Hogans was fouled. He missed the first free throw but got the second to fall to make it a 45-29 game. Texas added two more points before Franklin hit a three. Texas answered with a two before a timeout was called with 15:34 left in the game and Texas up 47-32.
Coming back from the timeout Texas added two more points but Franklin answered with two of his own. Both teams missed shots before A. Williams was fouled and after hitting both free throws North Texas was down 36-51. Texas hit for two. North Texas finally answered when J. Williams got a steal and a dunk. A timeout was called with 11:16 left in the game, the score 53-38 and Franklin at the line after a Texas foul.
Franklin hit both free throws bringing North Texas closer at 53-40. However, Texas was fouled put in both free throws then followed with two more points giving Texas a 57-40 lead. A. Williams was fouled on the next trip down the court and hit both free throws. Texas was fouled putting in their free throws. Trey Norris got his got his first points of the game on a layup which was followed by a steal and a two point layup. Texas called a timeout with 9:28 in the game and the score 59-46.
Texas was fouled after the timeout but missed both free throws. Norris got the rebound and on the other end of the court A. Williams was fouled on a loose ball. He hit both free throws to close the gap to 59-48. That is where the score stood at the 7:45 mark when a timeout was called.
North Texas got the ball in after the timeout then Hogans got the offensive rebound and fouled. He missed both free throws allowing Texas to get the rebound and three points on the other end of the court. The Longhorns added to their score on two free throws. Jones three point shot was good bringing North Texas closer at 64-53. Texas hit a three before Franklin was fouled and put in one free throw. Texas extended their lead on a two point shot and a free throw. Both teams could not score until A. Williams grabbed his own miss and scored to make it a 67-55 game. With 2:41 left a timeout was called.
North Texas could not get the ball to fall, turned the ball over to Texas and they added two more points. After Texas was fouled twice they added three more points from the line before Walton got the final two points of the game. North Texas falls once again on the road 73-57.
