MSU Buries North Texas
North Texas Head Football Coach Johnny Jones knew it was
going to be a rebuilding year this year as he was faced with starting so many
new players. However, it looked promising in their preseason and first game of
the season but in the last two games things have fallen apart. North Texas ran
into another buzz saw as they were dominated by #24 Mississippi State losing
59-82.
Maybe Mississippi State Head Basketball Coach Rick Stansbury said it best about the present North Texas team when he said after the game he knew North Texas has had some good teams under Jones “I know Johnny does a great job and I know he’s young right now that’s not one of his better teams.”
The Bulldogs were able to get the ball inside to get the points were more physical under the basket outrebounding North Texas on both sides of the court.
The score could have been much worse. With 11:44 left in the game Mississippi State was up 71-38 before they started to called off the Dogs.
Once again shooting was at the core problem. Chris Jones recorded 12 points followed by Jordan Williams with ten. The team was twenty of 62 shots from the floor for a shooting average of 32.3%. From beyond the arc they were five of 20 for 25% and hit 14 of 16 from the line for 87.5%.
Niko Stojiljkovic recorded a game high eight rebounds for North Texas, four on the offensive side of the court and four on defensive side.
Now North Texas (1-3) will travel to Austin to face Texas (3-2) this Tuesday night with tip off at 7:15. The game will be shown on the Longhorn Network.
