It's Worth the Price of Admission and More
North Texas has several bylines going for this Saturday’s game against Western Kentucky. A win would keep North Texas hopes alive for possible bowl bid. While Apogee Stadium has been good to North Texas Head Coach Dan McCarney’s crew, WKU is arguably the second best team to play in the new stadium.
On national television, against #1 ranked LSU, the Hilltoppers went toe to toe against the Tigers before succumbing to a deeper bench in the second half. WKU will be coming in with all the confidence in the world, not believing, but knowing they will take down North Texas. With a 5-5 record this season, WKU needs a win to become bowl qualified. They want to make sure they get the win this Saturday and not wait to see what happens next week.
It’s really the Lance Dunbar vs. Bobby Rainey show. Two of the best running backs in NCAA history for a final time in their college careers and both want to carry their team to a win. While McCarney has been vocal about Dunbar returning to play against the last game of the season against Middle Tennessee, he has been playing it close to the vest about Dunbar playing against WKU. Dunbar was injured twice in the win over Troy last week and there was fear he may have ruined his knee. Doctors stated there were no tears in his knee. This game is one Dunbar wants to prove he is a better back than Rainey. So, unless his knee falls out, look for him to be running his heart out.
WKU wants to prove to North Texas Defensive Coordinator Clint Bowen that it was an idiot for leaving their program to take the position at North Texas. The Hilltoppers even offered Bowen more money to stay but he decided to sign on with McCarney. WKU defense will be in high gear to stop Dunbar and do anything to stop the North Texas offense to prove they now have a better DC then Bowen.
Bowen’s group will be in the pits trying to stop Rainey and the WKU offense to prove to the Hilltoppers Bowen is the better defensive coordinator.
For what ever reason, this game is worth the price of
admission. No, this price of this ticket is worth more than two times the cost
of admission.
One thing for sure, WKU's mascot blows the wings off Scrappy. He/she/it is in the Capitol One Mascot Bowl again. Scrappy is still taking lessons off the former North Texas Football Coach. Maybe its time for them to find a new mascot coach.
