Students Came out in Droves

North Texas Head Coach Johnny Jones was more excited about the students coming out to watch his team power past St. Gregory’s 81-52.  Jones stated the “students came out in droves...that was something beautiful to look for.” He said he appreciated the support and looked for to seeing the fan support in the future. He also hoped his team can continue to play the way they did against St. Gregory and “continue to get better.”

Chris Jones had 12 rebounds, eight assists and four points. The coach was impressed the way the team blocked out enabling Jones to get the rebounds and with his speed to get up the court and get the assist at the other end. The team was able to finish and “that was huge for us.”

Jordan Williams “had an excellent game” by knocking down three of six from the three point line, finishing at the rim and hitting some perimeter shots.

Next Weds North Texas will travel to Texas Tech to face a team that is also using a lot of new players. “It’s going to an opportunity for us” to see how North Texas has grown as a team.

While his team did not have the luxury to play more home games, about the upcoming road games Jones said “I think it’s going to be good.”  It will allow the team to grow, work on “a lot of things we need too” and be able to work on team chemistry.

Oklahoma State transfer Roger Franklin was cleared by the NCAA to play for North Texas and “was chomping at the bits” to get into the game. Jones feels Franklin will be able to “do great things for us.” He can play inside and out, play the four and the three. Even though he has been working out with the team he still has to work on what the coach wants when it comes to the offense.  “He has to be a quick learner, which he is.”

Overall, the coach felt the team played well in the season opener.
