McCarney-Let's Make this Special for Everyone
North Texas Head Coach Dan McCarney invited all North Texas fans, as well as people in Denton, to the Friday night pep rally and the Homecoming Game this weekend against Sun Belt opponent the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
Part of this weekend’s festivities will be inductees into the North Texas Hall of Fame. McCarney stated it was somethin
g special for them and he “dropped all of them notes” when they were announced.
One of the inductees will be all-time leading receiver Johnny Quinn. He wondered if he could get Quinn to suit up for the game. “I’ve seen highlights of him and would love to have him in the lineup.”
McCarney said Athletic Director Rick Villarreal and the rest of the department has done a great job with the Lettermen’s Club. When he took over at Iowa State he wanted to meet with the president of their Lettermen Club and was surprised to see they did not have one for over thirty years. So they had to start one because if there isn’t a Lettermen’s Club there is no Hall of Fame. Villarreal had one in place when McCarney got here and he stated that was huge and a big part of Homecoming Festivities.
As for Homecoming, McCarney said he remembered when he was little and his entire family would go to the Homecoming parade at the University of Iowa. He remembers the color and the pageantry and how Homecoming is important to bring the people back to the campus. As for North Texas Fans “I want them to comeback and really be proud of Apogee Stadium.”
Because of the drought there will not be a Friday night bonfire but the pep rally will continue as scheduled. McCarney will bring the entire football team to the Friday night pep rally between 7:45-8:00. “So please come out…let’s make this a real special weekend for everyone but especially for those coming back that haven’t been here before.”
