It is Completely Unacceptable

It’s no secret; if you want to stop North Texas you stop Lance Dunbar. With all the defenses keying in on him, it is getting harder and harder for him to rack up yardage.  Louisiana-Lafayette basically was in Dunbar’s grill all game long. They were stating to North Texas just try to beat us with your passing game because we believe you can’t.

With the passing game basically grounded, the result was Dunbar was held to 53 yards rushing which is his lowest total output since the opening game against Florida International (FIU) when he managed just 43 yards.

Breland Chancellor had a 30 yard run on an end around which was his longest run from scrimmage and was also the longest run from any ball carrier this season. His 189 all purpose yards of running, receiving and kick returning the ball earned him “The Player of the Game.”

After the game Head Coach Dan McCarney spoke highly of his defense and said “they did a lot of good things.” They rose up to stop the Cajuns on a fourth down and less than one deep in their own territory. “They got a couple of turnovers” and were able to hold the number one scoring offense in the Sun Belt at bay for the first three quarters.

When talking about his offense he stated, “You aren’t going to win games in division one football” by only scoring ten points. “We have some major issues on offense and we have to get them fixed.”  He went on to add “it is completely unacceptable” the way the offense is playing.

The coach was upset with the blown opportunities, penalties, pushing and shoving by the players plus other things like retaliating against the other teams. It was undisciplined stuff that was going on “when I got here” and it was going to stop.

On one UL-L’s long pass plays for a big gain the coach explained the defense was in cover three and no one should get beat in cover three but “we did.”  So the North Texas coaches are going to have to do better coaching the offense and working on mistakes.

Not taking anything away from the Cajuns, McCarney explained that UL-L did things right, kept working on them and then took over the game in the fourth quarter. He hoped one day North Texas would be able to do the same thing.
