North Texas Travels to Texas State

North Texas will travel to San Marcos to take on Southland Conference Member Texas State. North Texas will be heading into the game after an exciting home win over Conference-USA member Rice, 68-65.


Texas State, (2-2) will be coming into the game after losing to NAIA Our Lady of the Lake in overtime 126-127. North Texas is actually the six team they have faced this year, including exhibition games, with five of the six games in San Marcos.


The Bobcats are paced by Tony Bishop, F, 6-6, 202, Sr., 14.8 points per game and leads the team in rebounds with 11.3 per contest. Cameron Johnson, F, 6-7, 215, Sr., is the second scorer with 11.8, followed by A.J. Stewart, F, 6-9, 240, Sr., with 11 points a game, he is second in rebounds with eight. Rounding out the top scorers in double figures is Eddie Rios, G, 6-0, 190, Jr., with 10.3.


They are under the leadership of Doug Davalos whom was hired five years ago to rebuild the program. The program has become more competitive under his leadership and coached the squad to a 15-16, 9-7 record last season.


This season Texas State is averaging 89.5 points a contest while giving up 85.8 to their opponents. They have rebounded well this early in the season grabbing 51.5 rebounds per game and opponents have only been able to get 39.8 rebounds per contest. They get 8.8 steals a game and give up the ball 8.5 times a game. TSU gets 4.5 blocks a game while opponents have only managed to swat 1.8 shots.

North Texas will have the advantage in the game for three reasons. Coach Johnny Jones' crew has a much stronger bench, has a faster team and shoot better from inside and outside.

The Bobcats average 2,175 fans per game but during the last home game less than 900 fans showed up.
