Jones' Team Starts Season Off With 92-66 Win
though North Texas was up at the half 45-36 it was not the result of
great field goal shooting rather they were the beneficiary of 18
trips to the line for 18 points. They secured only 11 baskets from
the field during the first half.
During the first half, North Texas hit 36.7% from the field but improved to 41.1% in the second half. The better shooting in the second half allowed North Texas to outscore Henderson 47-30.
In the end Henderson gave North Texas 47 attempts at the charity stripe leading directly to 36 North Texas points.
Tristan Thompson put in 25 points for North Texas while Dominique Johnson came in from the bench to put in a career high 21 points. Out of seven three point attempts he hit a career-high six three-point field goals. Hogans was third player to score in double figures with 11 points.
Although Josh White did not get into double figures he ended up with nine points, six from the free throw line, and it moved him to tenth place on the North Texas all-time scoring list with 1,253 points.
George Odufuwa ruled the points pulling in 11 rebounds helping North Texas to outrebound Henderson 43-34.
Head Coach Johnny Jones' team will not have much time to enjoy the victory because this Tuesday, Texas Tech will be making a trip to The Super Pit and do not intend to be upset by no team from the Sun Belt Conference even if they are the Sun Belt Champions.
