Dodge Dejected After FIU Loss

North Texas Coach Todd Dodge “I'll give credit where credit is due” and he complemented Florida International University for getting after his team. “They got after us from the get go.” He felt they were a sound and solid football team. North Texas offensive line could not stop the front seven. He stated we “couldn't get them blocked.”

All through the game they kept trying to find what might work. After halftime North Texas tried to speed up the game in order to stop FIU from getting into some of their blitz packages. The Eagles tried to “get the ball out on the perimeter more” used the short passing game and runs but nothing seemed to take hold.

At “times we got things going but not near enough.” While in past games North Texas could come back from being behind “21-0, 21-3” they could not close the gap because of the FIU defense.

Dodge felt disappointed in the penalties of his team. All week “they kept talking about it,talking about it and talking about” and how it hurt the team and thought they were over it and he couldn't believe it reared its ugly head. North Texas can't give the other teams gifts like the penalties and the mistakes.

According to Dodge the defense held FIU a little bit at bay during the second half but the offense could not get anything going “we made too many mistakes.”

He does not feel his players are not giving up but are battling every game so he doesn't question their heart. Against FIU “they came to play” and according to the coach they played their tails off.

The coaches and players will get together on Sunday and review the film of the game. Then they will get ready for their off week and will work out this Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday before they hit the recruiting trail.

He was asked about his future as head coach for North Texas he said “it hasn't been much of the secret”about the requirements handed down to him before the beginning of the season. Whether he remains the head coach is not his decision but until he hears otherwise “if I'm here for the next five weeks I'm going to keep trying to lead them.” He “can't stop to think about what his future is.”
