Hamilton Runs North Texas to First Win

Even though he carried the ball only eleven times, when it came down to it, James Hamilton was the offensive star of the game. On those eleven carries he total 122 yards for an outstanding average of 11.1 yards per carry. His long run of 32 yards would have been longer but he was stopped by the goal line for his one touchdown of the game. It was a score that was so desperately needed in this game for North Texas. It put North Texas up 21-10 and in a word it was a confidence builder. The team seemed to feel they could win the game.

After the game Hamilton stated the “offensive line handled the defensive line” and “handled the pressure” Florida Atlantic University had been throwing at North Texas all day.

Part of the offensive game plan was to run the ball up the middle in order to secure a win. Hamilton verified this when he stated “we had to run between the tackles and make sure we made them miss.” If the running backs could accomplish running up the middle and making defensive players miss they would get into the secondary for long runs and Hamilton accomplished that goal. He credited the offensive line for giving him the opportunities to rack up the yards.

On his 32 yard touchdown run, he was the quarterback and received the direct snap. “I was supposed to go up the middle” but he say FAU had it clogged so he went around end and headed to the endzone.

As a former quarterback in high school it was an opportunity for him to relive those memories from his prep years. It also showed the coaching staff he had the experience to handle direct snaps, be able to read the defenses and run to the open areas.

“It means a LOT” he stated about the win. To be able to go on the road and take a win meant a lot to him and the team. However, he was not living on the one win “we still have a lot of work to do.”
