North Texas Traveling Camps Begins June 13th
All college football programs have some sort of football camp every summer and the same is true for North Texas. Head Football Coach Todd Dodge will be having six junior/senior day camps which will be held in different locations around Texas. He will also be having his private three day quarterback/wide receiver camp June 7th-10th in Denton. At this point in time there is no other North Texas or other specialized camps planned for football this summer.
The junior/senior day camps are open to 11th and 12th graders. Seniors can not be graduating this year. These camps have been extremely successful over the years. For example, two years ago there were two camps which will were only held at Fouts Field. This year there are the six camps which will be in Denton at Fouts Field, Gladewater High School in Gladewater, with two camps in Houston one in League City at Veterans Memorial Stadium and the second at Spring High School. The event then moves to Cedar Park High School in Cedar Park before the final camp back on campus in Denton.
The first Denton camp and the Gladewater events are held the same day which is June 13th. Denton registration is at 8 AM while Gladewater registration begins at 5 PM.
On June 14th, the League City registration is 11 AM while the afternoon session at Spring High School is set for 6 PM.
The next month on July 18th, the football camp will travel to Cedar Park for a 1 PM session and the final camp will be July 25th at Fouts Field beginning at 8 AM.
Investment for each session is $40.00.
The camps last approximately four hours and feature all areas of football. The players get to learn some techniques which they can use during the next football season. The participates are broken down into the areas of their expertise where they get specialized instruction in their position.
While it helps a player to learn more about their position it also allows them to get to know the North Texas position coaches personally and one on one. The camp helps the player improve their skills and improves their chances of being recruited not only to North Texas but other schools as well.
It gives the coaches the opportunity to maybe find a player they are unaware of and could possibly considering recruiting next season. Sometimes it helps them to get to see a player they are recruiting and to evaluate them personally.
With the camp sites moving around the state, it gives the North Texas Coaches the opportunity to build stronger relationships with the high school coaches around the state. It exposes North Texas to areas of the state they may not be strong in. Some players in the southern half of the state would not attend North Texas camps because of the cost of travel and the travel time to the camps. Now, North Texas is coming to their doorsteps.
All schools find recruits from these camps and the same thing can be said about North Texas. During the recruiting season, many prospects will mention the camps they attended. There is a high relationship between the camps a recruit attended and the schools they sign with.
These camps also give another hidden dimension about North Texas Football and what some high school players maybe thinking about the school. There is apparently a lot of interest in North Texas Football because the coaching staff felt it was in the best interest of the athletes to have six sessions instead of two. Seems the two sessions were becoming full and the added sessions were needed to allow the players more personalized attention.
