North Texas watching Viking QB/WR Michael Smith

Two time Texas State Champion, Texas Association of Private and Parochial School (TAPPS) member Nolan Catholic High School maybe a source of another prospect for North Texas.

Next year’s senior Michael Smith, QB/WR, 5-11, 180 pounds is on the North Texas radar for next season.

If you would like to know how good he is this may answer the question. He really was the wide receiver on last year’s 2008 TAPPS State Championship team. This year, before the season began he was pressed into service to play quarterback when the starting quarterback become ill before the season started. All he did was to lead the Vikings to a 13-0 record, their first perfect season in history, and second TAPPS State Title.

With a few minutes left in the game and behind 18-20, Smith and North Texas Signee Tight End Tanner Smith teamed up together on three passes allowing the Vikings to kick the winning field goal to take a 21-20 win.

Nolen Catholic Head Football Coach Joe Prud’homme really has a delemia on his hands next season. He has two quarterbacks who proved they can handle the offense and both have won the TAPPS State Championship Title.

There will be a lot of colleges on Smith for several reasons. He has a great arm and can play the game with his legs. He is more of an options style quarterback. However, he is also a great prospect at receiver. Teams from MWC, CUSA, WAC, the Service Academies and North Texas are evaluating him over the summer and will be watching him this upcoming season.
