North Texas Offers Bullock from Western Arizona

North Texas is trying to build a stable of high quality running backs and believe Reggie Bullock, RB, 5-8, 180, 4.5, Western Arizona college fits the bill. The former three star recruit from Las Vegas High School definitely puts excitement into the game when he carries the ball. Illinois, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Iowa State, San Diego State, Kansas State are looking hard at him but North Texas has seen enough to give him his first offer.

As one report stated about him coming out of high school, “Reggie Bullock can play. The Vegas back Las Vegas Sunis real and he could be a corner or RB at many schools.” The problem with him is the same as a lot of talented players coming out of high school his high school core grades were poor and he could not get his SAT scores high enough to qualify. So he went to Western Arizona which is member of Western States Football League (WSFL) composed of Western Arizona, Eastern Arizona, Glendale, Mesas, New Mexico Military, Phoenix, Pima, Scottsdale and Snow.

During his high school senior year he transferred to Las Vegas High School where he rushed for 1,701 yards and 22 touchdowns leading his team to the Sunrise Regional Title and to the state semifinals.

In his junior year he played at Western High where he rushed for 1,356 yards, averaging 10.2 yards a carry and 12 touchdowns.

Some rating services called him a “pure scat-back…with good skills as both a runner and pass catcher out of the backfield.” He was called slippery and quick when he gets into space.

Athlons rated him the #20 running back coming out of high school.

He was elected third team offense on the Nevada All-Decade team. Bullock was selected first team All-State out of high school and first team All-District for 2006-2007 season. Bullock has a lot more awards on his resume.

Courtesy MGCCCWhen he arrived at Western Arizona he was expected to share playing time with another freshman running back. However, in his first game he blew away the competition. The season opener was against #4 Snow College the perennial power house of the conference. Bullock shredded their defense for 200 yards on 16 carries or 12.5 yards per touch. He caught four passes for 19 yards and scored two touchdowns leading Western Arizona to a 35-17 win. For his efforts he was elected WSFL Offensive Player of the week.

The next week, against bowl participant Phoenix College, he carried the ball 21 times for 159 yards for almost eight yards a carry, had one pass for 11 yards with four touchdowns on route to a 51-21 win. One of his touchdowns was a 96 yard touchdown run which is featured on this link, .Reggie Bullock and more videos if you look for them. (You might turn down the volume because of the music.) He once again was elected WSFL offensive player of the week, which was the first time any Western Arizona player recorded a back to back offensive Player of the Week Award.

Some song, different verse in week three as Bullock scored three touchdowns in the final 17 minutes of their game against Mesa Community College leading his team to a 33-29 come from behind victory. As a result he was named WSFL Offensive Player of the Week winning the award three times in a row. That was the first time it happened in the history of the award. In the game he carried the ball 26 times for 223 yards for a little over 8.5 yards a carry and three touchdowns on the ground. He hauled in one reception for 27 yards scoring another touchdown for a total of four touchdowns in the game.

At the end of the season he blew away the numbers. Before giving the numbers, understand he was injured most of the season, fought through those injuries in most games and because of the injuries missed three games. He played in nine games out of the 12 game season recording 203 carries for 1,417 yards for an average of 6.98 yards a carry. He was responsible for 157.44 yards a game. For the season he got the ball in the endzone twenty times. He led the team in carries and touchdowns. At one point in the season he was scoring 18 points a game but ended the season responsible for 15.55 points a game.

Bullock was elected WSFL Offensive Player of the Year and was elected second-team NJCAA All-American. His 157.44 yards a game ranked him first in the nation and his 20 touchdowns ranked him second.

He is quick to point out his success is because of other players on the team. "I did pretty well because I had a great line blocking in front of me.”

Western Arizona ended the season 9-2 losing to Mississippi Gulf Coast College in the Mississippi Bowl. He rushed for three touchdowns and 128 yards in the 24-27 loss.

The question is what is doing in the classroom? Head Western Arizona Football Coach Tom Minnick said. "Something just clicked and he is doing all of the right things in the classroom. He's going to have a great future if he keeps this up." In order to help his cause Bullock is taking three online courses this summer.

"I'm on top of my grades and pushing to get out by December," he said. The push for December is simple. Most FCS teams like to have player graduate in December so they can be on campus for spring practice. If a player does not graduate in December and has to stay in school past that time the number of schools interested in a player dramatically decreases.

With North Texas Head Coach Todd Dodge offering already, he is telling Bullock he wants him no matter if he graduates in December or has to wait for him until next season. Right now he is a two for three or three years left to play two seasons.

Minnick has stated Bullock is really a good kid who has been raised right and a pleasure to be around. He understands what he has to do to get himself academically qualified and working toward that goal. The coach said he is willing to do anything to help someone like Bullock. Bullock has already helped his coach. Because of abilities, Minnick was selected WSFL Region I Coach of the Year after his team finished #7 in the NJCAA Polls, #10 in the JCFootball.com poll, beat seven nationally ranked teams, were the #1 ranked team on offense and defense and were the WSFL Champions.
