Lettermen's Club Needs Your Help
The Lettermen’s Club is sadly looking forward to final season at Fouts Field. Almost all the Lettermen in the club played on Fouts Field and they are sad to see it go. However, they know if the Eagle program is to move forward new things have to happen and with happy hearts they are excited about the new stadium.
The Lettermen’s Club will be trying to contact all former players in order to have a get together before the curtain falls on Fouts. If you are a former letterwinner, or know of a former letterwinner, Mathew Phillips wants you to can contact him at Matthew.Phillips@unt.edu or 940-369-8409. Letterwinners may be asked to be a Decade Leader or help form a Decade Committee.
During the Final Fouts Finale season, during football games, letterwinners from certain decades will be recognized.
A tent for formal letterwinners will be set up inside the Mean Green Tailgate Village for them to visit with each other.
The Lettermen's Club has only one fund raiser a year and it is the Zeke
Martin Golf Classic which was founded by Businessman Cecil “Zeke” Martin ’51, ’51 M.Ed., who owned several business in Denton, the Mean Green Grocery and Martin Eagle Oil Co. Some of direct decedents are still going to and supporting North Texas Athletics. The picture shows some of his family members at a June 2009 golf outing.
Martin played several sports for North Texas basketball, tennis and football earning All-Conference honors as a quarterback three seasons in a row. In 1989, he was inducted into the UNT Athletic Hall of Fame.
The Zeke Martin Golf Classic will be held Friday, Sept 24th, 2010 the day before the Homecoming Game against Sunbelt Conference opponent Florida International University (FIU).
While the tournament supports the Lettermen Club, it is open to anyone who wants to play. Get four of your golf partners together and for $150 each you can play golf and meet some of the former North Texas Athletes. Who knows which ones you might meet?
There are prizes and gifts for anyone who signs up. Now all the plans and prizes are not in place so we can’t mention them. That is OK. The only plan is for UNT fans, alumni, students and supporters to cross off on their calendar Friday, Sept 24th and play golf.
Here’s want we know for sure. The event will be held at The Golf Club at Champions Circle, 15801 Championship Pkwy, Fort Worth, TX 76177, 817-487-2582. Registration will be between 10:00-11:30 with the Shotgun, 4 man or woman scramble to begin at Noon. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, for a hole in one on par 3’s, closest to the hole on par threes and the longest drive. (No not if you drive in from Alaska, California etc.) If you like Mulligans you can buy five for $20.00.
If you or your company would like to donate something to be given away, if you would like to get early registered or you just want to send money to the club you can contact Matt Phillips. Last year there was about 150 players and UNT is expecting more this year.
