Winter Springs QB stops by North Texas
Over the
past year he has attended the UnderArmor Combine held in
While he is listed at some sites at 5-10, 160 lbs., according to his High School Head Football Coach Matt Hesselbart, “he has grown” to his present height and weight and feels Etheridge still has room to grow because his father Trey is 6-4.
“We run a two quarterback system” explained Hesselbart when talking about the type of “modified spread” system they employ. They “always have three wide receivers” with no tight ends and two backs. Last season Etheridge was one of the quarterbacks in the system so he had shared duties. Because of the system, his junior numbers do not stand out, however, this year things could be different.
Hesselbart stated Etheridge is “the best athlete on the team” and because of it, he has used his talents at several diff
erent positions. While he was the sharing QB duties, he at times was the wide receiver, punt returner, defensive back and safety.“He’s a tough kid,” is coachable and “plays with his feet”Hesselbart said. “When I need a first down” he is going to Etheridge because he“makes things happen.” The coach trusts the ball in his star athlete’s hand and makes no bones about it.

There is no question Etheridge is going to get scholarship offers from some big name schools. When college coaches get a tape of Etheridge they are surprised at his abilities and interest immediately picks up. College coaches from all over are keeping in contact with the Hesselbart to see how Etheridge is doing and how his senior year will progress. According to the coach “you would have to see the tape” to understand how good this kid plays.
At the next level they are looking to recruit him as an athlete and Hesselbart agrees with it. However he says Etheridge can play quarterback at the next level, in the right system and the right college. “If he was 6-4 all the major programs would be after him” the coach said. His height could hurt his recruiting at some schools but if a program is willing to“roll him out to use his skills” he can play big time ball at the quarterback slot.
As for Etheridge, he understands the situation and is willing to play any position that a college needs but his passion is quarterback.
Why would someone from

He has a 3.8 GPA, on the honor role and takes Advance Placement Courses so there will be no problems being qualified.
