Hines takes over wide receivers

New North Texas wide receivers coach Conroy Hines comes to the Mean Green after spending 16 years with the Louisiana Tech program. He coached several different positions as a full-time and assistant coach. His last three years he was the wide receivers coach before he resigned in December, 2009 to seek other coaching opportunities.

After a stellar career as Neville High School in Monroe La., he signed with LaTech to play football and lettered from 1986-1988. He was the final quarterback for LaTech at the Division 1-AA level. In his senior year, the Bulldogs played a Division I schedule even though they were a Division 1-AA program.

Hines earned his undergraduate and two master’s degrees from Tech. He graduated in 1989 with a business management degree, earned his earned a master’s degree in business in 1991 and in 1993 a master’s degree in education. He served as graduate assistant from 1992-1993. He was promoted to the Bulldog tight ends coach from 1994-1998, moved to wide receiver coach for years 1999-2000. In 2001 he was switched to offensive coordinator /quarterback coach until 2006. From 2007-2009 he returned back to wide receivers coach.

During his tenure, he served under four different head coaches, Joe Raymond Peace, 1988-1995 with a 40-44-4 record. Under Gary Crowton, 1996-1998, Tech went 21-13. The Jack Bicknell era, 1999-2006, the Bulldogs went 42-53 and under Derek Dooley, 2007-2009, they went 17-20.
