EAGLETALK.NET: North Texas vs Denver for a chance to play in the Championship Game
North Texas vs Denver for a chance to play in the Championship Game
Tonight North Texas will take on Denver for one side of the Sunbelt Championship Game. The winner will face either Troy or Western Kentucky for the automatic NCAA bid.
Number 2 seed North Texas hosted #6 seed Denver during the regular season with the Mean Green taking a 64-59 win. The slow style of the Pioneers kept UNT at bay holding them for the lowest point production for the second time this season. The Mean Green was able to lead the game from the beginning at times stifling Denver runs when theytried to get back into the game.
Even with the low total output, four Mean Green players scored in double figures. Josh White had 17 points, Shannon Shorter had 13, Eric Tramiel 11 and Tristan Thompson 10.
The Pioneers earned the right to fact UNT by taking a 15point upset win over Middle Tennessee 73-58. Denver is led by two time first team Sunbelt Conference guard Nate Rohnert. He has helped Denver lead the nation in two-point fieldgoal percentage at 57.6%.
The key to this game will be North Texas being patience with the pace of the game and waiting for the right opportunities to score. North Texas needs to get an early lead and stretch that lead as quickly as possible. Denver is not known as comeback team. If North Texas is patience and takes an early lead they will find themselves playing tomorrow for the Sunbelt Conference Championship.
